Frequently Asked Questions.

What is athletic therapy?

Athletic therapy is a specialized field focused on the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of injuries. Athletic therapists work with people from all ages and backgrounds, athlete or not, to help them recover from injuries and improve their physical performance. They use various techniques, including manual therapy, exercise prescription, and management strategies, to help with rehabilitation. Athletic therapists are approved to bill MPI and WCB.

What can I expect in an athletic therapy appointment?

Your first appointment is an assessment, an opportunity to get to know you, your normal activities and what your concern is. We will have a conversation, followed by a physical assessment and treatment. Your first appointment will be 45-60 minutes. Follow up appointments are shorter, usually consisting of a short reassessment and treatment. Treatment may include manual therapy (such as massage), ultrasound, electrical stimulation and therapeutic exercises.

What should I wear to my athletic therapy appointment?

Dress comfortably and ready to move. If you have an upper body injury, a t-shirt or tank top is preferred. For a lower body injury, shorts or capris are preferred.

What can I expect in a massage therapy appointment?

Your first appointment consists of a short  conversation where we get to know you, and you can share any concerns/injuries and health history, followed up by a short targeted assessment and treatment. For treatment, you are encouraged to dress to your comfort level and communicate with your therapist. Follow up appointments have shorter conversations at the start to touch base on what is going on and discuss your treatment plan, followed by your massage.

Are your massage therapists registered?

Yes. All of our massage therapists have completed a 2 year 2200 hour program and are members of associations that make them registered in Manitoba.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes relaxation and well-being by channelling universal life force energy through the practitioner's hands to the recipient.

What can I expect in a Reiki session?

During a session, the client remains fully clothed and either lies on a treatment table or sits comfortably. The practitioner gently places their hands on or near the client's body in specific positions, allowing energy to flow and support the body's natural healing processes. Some clients report sensations like warmth, tingling or deep relaxation, while others experience a sense of calm and balance. Please arrive a few minutes early and dress comfortably to encourage relaxation.

How do I start my counselling journey at FGW?

We are so happy you are ready to start your mental health journey! First, book your free 15 minute phone consult with Megan to see if therapy with Meagan is a good fit. From there, you will book your first session. In your first session, we work on comfort, background information and creating goals for your future treatments. Follow up sessions work toward your goals and introduce different treatments or techniques that can help you.

What is Circle of Security?

From the Circle of Security (COS) website: "The Circle of Security is a visual map of attachment. It is used in parent education and intervention programs to help caregivers better understand and meet children's attachment needs. It depicts the interplay between a child's need for exploration (going out) and their need for comfort and safety (coming in), with the caregiver acting as both a Secure Base and a Safe Haven." COS helps understand and address children's behaviours, and the needs underneath those behaviours. It also helps provide a map and new perspective on why we react the way we do when kids act out or act certain ways. It is both an observation into the child's motivations/of seeking connection, as well as a reflection of how we became the parent we are, and why. If you have questions about if COS is right for you, contact Megan at meganm@feelgoodwellness.ca.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy is a treatment that focuses on enabling people to engage in activities (occupations). Occupational Therapists (OT) encourage independence by adapting spaces and movements to work better for the indivudual. We offer many types of assessments based on your needs. From equipment and wheelchair assessments to determine what aids work best to home assessments, hospital discharge assessments and even pediatric assessments, our OT can help people of all ages increase their independence in a safe way. For more information, or to see if OT is the right choice for you, contact Carmine at carmine@feelgoodwellness.ca.

I received an email when I booked, what should I do?

When you book your first appointment, we send you an email with an intake form. Please take time to fill this out before your appointment or plan to come 10 minutes early to fill it out on a tablet at the clinic. We ask for information that we may need for your care along with your insurance information for the purpose of direct billing if you would like us to do that for you.

Who do you direct bill?

For massage and counselling we direct bill most insurance companies, as listed on our services and pricing page. Athletic therapy can be directly billed to Manitoba Blue Cross, MPI and WCB. Please check your insurance to see if you need a prescription to access these benefits. Reiki is sometimes covered under alternative or complementary health care benefits. We do not direct bill for Reiki or occupational therapy.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral or doctor's note to come to Feel Good Wellness. However, your insurance provider may require one to access your benefits.

Do I need an appointment?

Our therapists maintain busy schedules and rarely have same day appointments. Booking ahead is encouraged. If you are more the last minute type of person join our waitlist.

I need to cancel my appointment, is there a fee?

Yes. Our therapist's time is valuable and they require 24 hours notice for any cancellation. Less than 24 hours notice will be charged a late cancellation fee of 50% of the appointment cost. All no show appointments will be charged at 100% of the appointment cost.

These fees cannot be charged to insurance, MPI or WCB. Doing so would be insurance fraud.
